  • Motivated?

  • Determined?

  • Love Learning?

We love expanding our group and meeting new people who love folklórico as much as we do! It is important to consider the following factors when looking for a folklórico group:

the director

  • What training and credentials do the director possess?

  • Who did they train under?

  • Does the director have licensure in ballet folklórico?

  • Does the director have a degree in dance?

  • What length of time did the director dance?

  • Does this director know one art form or many?

A director should have knowledge from a proper institution regarding ballet folklórico or adequate training to become a proper folklórico teacher or director under a specific maestro or company. Attending a conference or two does not qualify a person to become a director. Simply dancing without proper director/teaching training does not qualify a person to become a director. A director is well-qualified if s/he has obtained a degree in dance and has a specific teaching license in the subject. How many various forms of dance or art in general does the director know? Is this person familiar with music, art history, various forms of dance such as ballet, jazz, tap, Latin dance, flamenco, belly dancing, other ethnic dancing, etc. It is important to choose a director who has a vast knowledge base.

type of company

  • Is the company for-profit, non-profit, a large corporation?

  • Is the company large or small?

  • What types of performances does the company have?

What kind of folklórico company would you like to support? A large corporation will have ballet folklórico as a subsidiary with various of companies or types of dance groups. A for-profit company may have many goals, but the primary is generating profit via strong services. A non-profit does not prioritize profits, as their main goal is to promote a social cause. Would you feel more comfortable in a large, medium, or small sized company? Would you feel more interest in a single level or multi-level dance group? Do you want a company that produces large shows? Would you like a company that has multiple small performances? Do you want a company that does both? Dancers will usually be required to promote, sell tickets, and help generate funds for all types of shows.

practice location

  • Where does the group practice?

Does the group have a proper dance room with wooden floors and mirrors? It is important to take care of your dancer body, knees, and other joints. A proper place to dance will indicate true respect for the art of ballet folklórico.
